I did some research about Caught In The Web this week, it is a movie directed by Chen Kaige, the only film adapted from a network of selected works of "LuXun Prize" novel Please Forgive Me. This film shows how five differentage, identity, position women to grow in the face of adversity. Gao Yuanyuanplays the role of white-collar workers, who caused large-scale network violencelike butterfly effect, because of a small issue about offering bus seat.Television reporter Yao Chen plays an objective justice, but she burned her ownideal news, in the end. Chen Hong plays a middle-aged wealthy wife but suffereddomestic violence, Wang Luodan plays a workplace freshman, and Chen Ran plays asecretary who utilized ‘Palace Calculating’ to be succeed.

Thereare some single shots of the heroine, which accurately show frustration andanxiety of the exhausted heroine. In my view, if you want to show a completecharacter in a film, not only needs proper appearances, but also providentialemotions and attitudes. Most significantly, there must be correct lights andright camera shots/movements. For instance, in the following picture,screenshot of Caught in the Web.

Theheroine is lying on the bed, her head is in front of the camera, while thecamera choses to shoot her out through the French window, which gives audiencemuch more concentrations and comprehensions of this character. This shot givesme inspiration about our short film, we may use some shots similar as it, tryto express and present a complete fresh and alive character to audience.

Apartfrom the research, we modified our script a bit. Such as the part of theheroine and doctor talking first time, we came out an idea that setting thissituation into a black space scene with only a bed and lights, like a livingtheater or a modern drama. By this setting, on the one hand, we can save ourbudget because we do not have to go to hospital for shooting, on the otherhand, we put more mysterious color and surrealism in our film. Doctor:do you get up? It's just a matter of willpower

Woman:I think I should have an injection now

Doctor:don't change the subject

Woman:I don't have any. My legs don't work

Doctor:I know the time. He comes at four o'clock. 

Woman:I'm not sure. I think he's happy to see me in bed

Doctor:just as you please

(shejumps down) 

Woman:so he knows where I am. I belong to my place

Doctor:they come to see you, your brother, your friends

Woman:friends are curious people. They want to see if I'm alive, and they're there. Ikeep letting them down

In the following days, we will have deeper discussion about how to combine the normal script with the play of living theater or modern drama. Moreover, we will start drawing storyboard and making a budget.
