Newt has a scientific's eyes for details, regularly spotting odd minutiae that others overlook. Newt has a thirst for knowledge about magical creatures and his main objective is to protect them and educate others about them. However, this often gets him into serious trouble.

President Seraphina Picquery gives Newt an infraction, and sends him to Graves for sentencing. Tina, seen by the President as an accessory to Newt, is sent with him. Graves chooses sentence both Newt and Tina to death.

He trapped it inside a shimmering black box and put it inside his case so he could study it. Newt insists that without the host child, this Obscurus is harmless.

New took the balme for Leta and was expelled in her place.

Costume designer Colleen Atwood calls Newt an 'off-the-page character'. Everything she needs to know about him was right there in the script. 'He's been living in the wilderness,' she says. 'Therefore he adapts everything to what he needs in his own world.’

Nevertheless, he still needed to be able toblend with the world of the 1920s. The trick was to take general look of the age – what Atwood likes to call its 'silhouette' – and make his clothes a little mismatched and ill-fitting. There would be something quirky about him, but not clownish. If there tended to be a lot of warm tones in the menswear ofthe era – brown and so forth – Newt would wear something cooler.

'so I chose a dirty peacock blue for his coat,' Atwood explains, 'and that was sort of his defining look – he wears that the most. The layers underneath sort of work with the jungle and other places that he has been.’

Naturally, there would be more to Newt's overcoat than meets the eyes. 'We had all kinds of pockets that had purpose inthe script,' says Atwood, whose designs are as influenced by requirements of plot as much as character. 'His little friends hide in there and then he has some of his medicines in there, and his cures. So I researched magicians coats and learned how they had all these secret pockets.’

Redmayne has loved that he really only wears one outfit the whole way throughout the film, but changes as he does: ‘The collar pops open. The trousers go into his bots. I suppose there’s a slightly eccentric, nerdy quality to him that turns into more like an adventurer by theend of the film.’

'What I love about Newt,' says Redmayne, 'is he's a passionate fellow. He's got his own agenda. He's got his own interests.In many ways, he's not a people pleaser.’

As director David Yates explains, 'He's one of the very few wizards who believes that creatures have a place in the wizarding world and they should be cherished and appreciated. Everybody else thinks he’s nuts, because they’re also dangerous. So he's a bit of a lone figure.’

Newt's great hope is to bring the wizardingworld around to see the value in the beasts. With the proper education they could learn to love side by side with them, and appreciate how extraordinarythey are. So he has been travelling around the world, researching his book. Atthe beginning of the film he has spent a year in the field collecting there endangered species, which he keeps, naturally enough, in his case.

Yates had encouraged all the actors to comeup with their own ideas. Redmayne calls it, 'trouble shooting by magic ideas'. For instance, when he came up with ideas of using his wand as umbrella, Yates was delighted: 'I love it. Use it.’

Katherine Waterston, who plays the witch Tina Goldstein, found herself mesmerized by the different relationships Redmyane created with each of the beasts he is looking after.

'He's learning to be himself,' says Redmayne, which means he must learn to trust and find comfort in other people. Almost out of necessity, Newt will form two very different friendships with two very different locals. First, he literally collides with Dan Fogler's forlorn Jacob Kowalski, a No-Maj whose dreams of opening his own bakery have comeunstuck.

Yates explains that, 'In the course of the story Tina and Newt have this unrequited, quite tender, quite funny journey together.' Newt's romantic past, which complicates matters, is as haphazard as most of his dealings with humankind, particularly his family.

The Scamanders are none too impressed with the career path the younger brother Newt, has taken.

The wizard has a significant background. 'Newt actually went to Hogwarts, and he trained under Albus Dumbledore,' says Yates. The director goes on to explain that Newt was expelled from the famous wizarding school under 'enigmatic circumstances' and only Professor Dumbledore spoke up for him.

'I think the way Eddie Redmayne is approaching the character and the fact that he is an Englishman in New York really adds to the layer of otherness. He comes with foibles and insecurities and all kinds of messiness. From the costume to the hair to the mistakes he makes throughout. I think he is a really endearing man.’

'It's a huge, huge space down there,' says Eddie Redmayne. 'He keeps all these individual species in his case, which in itself is a sort of wondrous plethora of terrains.’

In terms of how it looked, the idea was that this hold all has accompanied Newt around the world and is a bit battered and bruised. One of the catches keeps springing open. It is not what you would describe as entirely secure. It is also another object, like Newt's wand, which reflects his personality: a little scuffed and weather-beaten at first glance, but what is inside proves to be extraordinary.

'Inside the case is almost an Eden-like environment that Newt is in charge of,' says concept artist Dermot Power.

The key for Power was this idea that Newt happened to be more interested in dealing with beasts than becoming a good wizard. He realized that the results of Newt's magic would be 'slightly off,slightly clunky'.

The result was that their magical safari park became more homespun like the shed, albeit the size of an aircraft carrier. Only they appear to be alive.

'So it's like he's done the most beautiful worlds he can do, and if they’re a bit shaky he sort of makes sure they work,' Power goes on to say. 'He puts them back together. He doesn't take pride in being the greatest world creator. He's just pleased that the beasts are happy in the worlds that he's created.’

Below a set of giant light bulbs around which flutter tiny, fairylike Doxies, is the aquatic environment for the Grindylows. They are kept in a zero-G water bubble that floats around. 'As Newt's magic doesn't quite work properly,' laughs Manz, 'the water is spilling everywhere.’

In all of the design considerations forthis extraordinary place, one thing was essential – the possibility of escape. As Manz points out, there are no bars. Newt would never cage his beasts. They needed to tell the story of how these creatures get out, and it came back tothe fact that his magic is less than reliable. As Manz explains, 'the magic he is using to contain them sort of works, but doesn't work. It's a bit like him, a bit shambolic.’

'Men are better known than women for liking sheds as a refuge, as a place to be alone with your thoughts,' says Craig. 'And Newt is a very independent character: being solitary seems to be a necessary part of his life at times, and so we gave him a shed.’

At floor level, Newt's shed is like a window into his busy mind. Here are the tools of his trade: tripod cameras and a pickaxe, rope nets and collecting jars. Tacked on to the walls are notes and maps, drawings of beasts, even a few moving pictures of loved ones. He has a workbench, and a bed under the bench, along with a stove and an armchair. ‘It is a great place for a man like Newt to be alone,' says Craig with a twinge of envy.

'David Yates liked the Heath Robinson approach,' explains VFX supervisor Tim Burke. 'Newt is a bit of a collector, and that is what the shed is all about. It represented his character. It was a bit higgledy-piggledy. On his travels he has picked up all these bits of ephemera.’

When it came to Newt's wand, says Bohanna,they wanted something that could be traced back to some 'animal component'. However, Eddie Redmayne who attended special 'wand-work' classes and, like all the wand- wielding actors, was thrilled to have input into the final model, was insistent there could be no leather or horn involved. Newt wouldn't stand for that. Which definitely ruled out anything macabre like bone.

'It had quite a lot of character,' says a satisfied Bohanna: 'chip, knocks and bangs to show a well worked life.’

'When you first meet Jacob, he's back from the war,' says Fogler. 'He's like the last guy back. Like no one told him it was over. 'Jacob gets throw in to this magical adventure he can't quite believe it,' explains producer David Heyman. 'He too is an outsider, and things haven't gone his way. However, he has always remained an enthusiast, full of possibility, believing in the possibilities of life. When he encounters these magical folk, he sees a whole world he could have never imagined.'

One of the more delightful aspects of the story for David Yates was how much is seen through Jacob's eyes. 'Ultimately you're taken into it by Jacob, and we are Jacob. We experienced many of these things from his point of view.’

He inverted it: things were sad when they should have beenfunny and funny when they should have been sad. That gift and quality just madeus go, “Wow, he's going to steal this.”'

Fogler goes on to liken Newt's partnership with Jacob to Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Above all, with Jacob acting as Newt's 'sherpa' through the maze of New York, a case full of mutual necessity will mark the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

'Jacob's kind of what you'd describe as a schlub back in the day. He has baggy pants at his waist. We meet him trying toget a loan from a bank and he had a suit that looks presentable. But as he has so little money his clothes don't quite fit the way they should. I used softer fabrics so he had a little bit more bagginess.’

Tina will surreptitiously point her wand inthe direction of the stone owl, which launching into the air commences anintricate magical operation transforming a humble set of revolving doors into the entrance to MACUSA.

At first glance, Porpentina Goldstein or 'Tina' Goldstein is a no-nonsense, career-driven New York witch. Indeed. She is the first of a magical persuasion to spot that Newt might be more than a passing tourist.

Newt is clearly an exposure risk to the secretive MACUSA. He may also be a chance for Tina to redeem herself.

Tina has run into her own problems at MACUSA. 'She's recently been demoted,' explains Katherine Waterston, the NewYork-based actress who is bringing this complicated witch to the screen. 'She's gone from being a detective to the lowly work in the Wand Permit Office. Basically stamping passports.’

What her crime might be is revealed over the course of the movie. 'Like Newt,' he says, 'she is a wee bit of an outsider.’

Waterston finds her character fascinating. Nothing is quite what it seems. Tina is really proud to be a part of MACUSA. She still hopes to make something of herself there. Yet she also slinks about New York doing her own investigation like a private eye from an old-schoolcrime movie.

She's got a great physical ability at comedy, which is quite rare. She's also a really powerful actor. I loved that combination.’

Waterston doesn't count herself as any kind of expert on the history of Harry Potter. She had seen some of the films, read some of the books, but admits she hadn't got a completely lost in the world. She also thinks that may not be a bad thing.

Two key relationship will emerge in Tina's busy corner of that universe. Firstly, with her sister Queenie, played by Alison Sudol, with whom she shares a small Brownstone apartment.

It was their first day working together and they had to glide about the kitchen casting spells with their wands as if it was second nature.

Throughout the first film, as she watches him interact with his fantastic beasts and sees the way he is, Tina will come to view Newt in a different light.

'With Katherine's character, it is sort of a slow-build connection,' says Redmayne, 'these two people, who are outsiders yet passionate people, begins to glimpse things in one another.’

Waterston describes it as a love story albeit in an unconventional way. They have a lot of to deal with in the meantime – escaped beasts, death sentences, going on the run, tackling the outbreak of dark magic – and yet Newt sees all the potential in her that she has trouble seeing in herself. 'At first, she thinks he's dangerous and untrustworthy, and potentially kind of cute too,' she says. 'Then as the relationship evolves you start to notice parallels between them. I mean, both are very passionate but not very good at expressing themselves.’

'Tina Goldstein is a little bit gawky. A little bit not quite there in her body and just a little bit off in her costume. When it came to her wand, Katherine Waterston requested some 'heft'. She wanted to make Tina's spell-casting forceful, as if magic was something she takes very seriously. 'Tina's was nice,' says Pierre Bohanna. 'Quite simple and quite classic.’

'Being Queenie is just delightful,' declares Alison Sudol. 'She's really playful, but also perceptive and empathetic. She is aware, but very unaware of herself at the same time, which I just love.'

They may be entirely different creatures, but orphaned at a young age the Goldstein sisters have come to depend on one another. The décor of their apartment is a colourful fusion of their different personalities.

For producer David Heyman, Queenie is archetypal of a theme that runs throughout J.K. Rowling's work – don't judge a book by its cover. 'Nothing is quite as it seems,' he says. 'So with Queenie, you could easily dismiss her because she is a beautiful woman, but there arehidden reservoirs and much more that lies beneath.’

Another element of Legilimency is the ability to detect lies and deceit in a person, and she finds none at all in the downtrodden baker. Seeing a true heart, Queenie will fall for this unlikely fellow.

Director David Yates admits it was finding the untainted side to Queenie that made her so hard to cast. 'On paper, Queenie is this glamorous, beautiful, exotic woman, and we saw the most glamorous, beautiful, exotic women for that role,' he says. 'However, there was just something missing, and then Alison came in. There was a purity and an innocence to what she did that was exceptional.'

'Queenie was a lot of fun. I made a coat for her that she wears a lot. I drew the design and it was woven for me – it took thirty thousand feet of thread to make that coat. Underneath is her take on a witch's dress, but with alittle bit of a nineteen-twenties slant and a little bit of floozy.'

Named for the dark sandstone bricks used tobuild Manhattan's famous townhouses, most Brownstones were converted into apartments in the 1920s. Not wealthy, the Goldsteins occupy a couple of rooms within one such conversion.

Furthermore, Tina and Queenie will prepared inner for their guests with the help of familiar spells. Jacob, recovering from a nasty bite from a Murtlap, wonders whether he is having a hallucinogenicepisode. ‘He's chucked onto this sofa and the girls suddenly swish their wands around and plates fly from everywhere and food is being chopped,' says visual effects supervisor Christian Manz, 'and we go into incredible detail about baking an apple strudel magically. But it feels workaday, it feels normal to them.’

And there are those, like herself, who think it best to remain in isolation. As the film begins, a fragile peace is being maintained, but civil war hovers in the paranoid air of MACUSA.

There's no grey area. It has to be eradicated,' announces Jenn Murray, who features as Chastity. 'Because it challenges them.’

Credence is a young man who like many young men seems lost in his life. He seems to be on the outside looking in, like the world is a mystery to him. He is also a mystery to himself. 'The character of Graves is taking the lead,' explains Farrell, 'and there's a little bit of guidance, and also a little bit of support and tenderness and all of that kind of stuff.’

Miller sees things differently. That's how I felt.’

'I really wanted Credence to be pulling inwards, so I brought meanness to his costumes. The collar's very high and tight, with a slightly bug shape to it. I did a lot of breakdown on his jacket, so it had a worn-out quality. It's the only thing he had. He and Jacob are the only two characters in the movie that don't have a coat and I did that on purpose. There's a poverty to not having a coat.’

Owner, manager, and ringmaster of The Blind Pig, Gnarlak is quite a character. He may be small in stature, but he's a big player in the magical underworld of New York, keeping the Aurors of MACUSA off his back with a little helpful intelligence every now and then.

'It's a manifestation of Dark magic,' explains Yates. 'It's really a wonderful idea that Jo came up with. When a young child is prohibited from developing their magic in a healthy, organic way, then this dark energy can develop, and the dark energy can suddenly get out of control and wreak havoc.’

Newt is an outsider. He is someone who has an amazing emotional relationship with his creatures but is perhaps less capable with human beings. He keeps his relationship with his beasts quite discreet; most of it happens down in his case, or in the solitude of his travels around the world. There are moments in the film where the people around him find him eccentric, complicated, knotty and difficult, but they see in hisrelationship with the creatures that he has a large heart.

There is a real child-like quality to Newt and it's something that binds Tina, Jacob, Queenie, and my character together over the course of the film. There is a child-like wonder to all four of them and a passion for life,and for Newt that means his beasts. You feel as if he's been obsessed with these creatures from an early age. These beasts are his escape form reality. And yet they are their very own reality - they need to be fed regularly and there is a sense of ritual about that. They need to be constantly looked after.They are his children in some ways.

They are the only things he truly cares about. This is until this story begins and his world changes...

"The fact that he is an Englishman in New York really adds to the layer of otherness," says Carmen Ejogo who stars as MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery, "and he is the perfect embodiment of [that] otherness. He's certainly not your typical hero. He comes with foibles and insecurities and all kinds of messiness, from the costume to the hair to the mistakes hemakes throughout."

"There's this odd, buddy movie quality to these two people who couldn't be more different," says Redmayne of Newt and Jacob. "With Tina, it's a slow build connection. These two people are outsiders, yet passionate, and begin to glimpse and find each other. Friendship is the core of this quartet who start in completely opposite directions and end up as friends.That camaraderie is an essential element."

The graphics team created a copy of Newt's Fantastic Beasts manuscript complete with typed pages and "erratic sketches," as well as correspondence between himself and his publisher Obscurus Book. And, as requested by J.K. Rowling, they also fashioned a Bestiarium Magicum. "She wanted a bestiary, which is a medieval tome on the accounting of animals,"reveals Mina. "It's the only Bestiarium in existence," notes fellowg raphic designer Eduardo Lima. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is intended to replace this one."

Whenit came to Newt, Atwood knew immediately what he should wear. "He's been living in the wilderness. He adapts everything to what he needs, but he has to blend with the real world. It was about using the silhouette of the period, but making his clothes a little mismatched and a little ill-fitting. So I chose a dirty peacock blue for his coat. That was his defining silhouette. A cooler tone on top with warmer tones underneath."

And much like a magician's, Atwood designed Newt's coat with all manner of secret pockets. "He keeps pets in there. He has some of his medicines in there. We probably see very little of it, but it was fun to develop and playwith. Eddie's a great collaborator and so everything was designed to work with the character he was creating physically as well as aesthetically."

"It was wonderful working with Colleen," says Eddie Redmayne. "Finding out what men were wearing, then finding the offbeat and exploring this coat which is a massive element of Newt's character. He reallyonly wears one outfit the whole way through, but the collar pops and the trousers go into his boots, and there's a slightly eccentric, nerdy quality to him,although he looks a bit more like an adventurer by the end."

When J.K. Rowling saw their first pass at the environment, she told the design team it was "too epic, too ambitious. It's much smaller," recalls Power. "Jo felt it was great, but that a wizard more powerful than Voldermort would be needed to create [it]," remembers Manz. "Newt's a good, talented wizard but he wouldn't be able to create what he had done, which was an enormous reality. "

So Power started reworking the environments to make them "slightly off, slightly chuncky." Eventually arriving at a series of designs that were "more homemade, more Heath Robinson"according to Burke. "Newt loves animals so much he's gone to great trouble of creating these worlds, but doesn't see his career as that. He's just pleased the animals are happy. So the environment are individually designed for each creatures, but all share alanguage that relates to Newt and the 1920s."

It was decided too that the atmosphere of each habitat would leak into those around it. That weather bleeding was also designed to serve as kind of subtextual explanatory as to how the animals might escape. Partly because they're not caged and therefore free to roam, and partly because the magic Newt used to contain them isn't powerful enough. 'The magic he's using is a bit like him," laughs Manz," a bit shambolic."

This is Newt's home away from home. More than just a place from which he tends his animals, it's a refuge, a retreat, says Craig. "And Newt is a very independent character being solitary seems to be a necessarypart of life at times and so we gave him a shed. He has a workbench. He has a bed under the bench. He has a stove, an armchair. It is a great place for a man like Newt to be alone."

The interior of Newt's shed is his most personal space. "It really is his character described in the most intricate physical terms,"says Eddie Redmayne.

Like Newt, it's a little messy, a tad askew and chockfull of stuff. "Theinterior was one of the few opportunities for the props to convey the world of Newt and his personality," explains set director Anna Pinnock. "The idea was developed from a standard garden shed which was a adapted and distorted in dimension to create an unusually tall, narrow and extremely confined space, dressed to suit Newt's other-worldly and eccentricpersonality."

"We wanted to suggest Newt had travelled extensively in both the real and fantasy world," Pinnock continues,"so we introduced ethnic pieces, agricultural and zookeeper's tools with a great variety of unusual containers and receptacles."

It might be my favourite thing on the film, watching [Newt] engage with the animals because each relationship is different and he has developed ways of communicating with them," recalls Fogler. "Some animals he has more of a personal connection with or a more intimate connection, but he cares for all of them so much, and it's one of the things that catches Tina'seyes, his relationship with the animals."

"He's very much a American bird,"says Eddie Redmayne. "When I find him before the film starts, he's in Egypt, where he had been trafficked, because Thunderbirds are incredibly valuable. He has this extraordinary quality that he can sense danger. Also his mood is reflected by the weather, so if he is frightened or excited then the rain pours."

White in color with multiple shimmering wings, a gold beak and eyes,the Thunderbird was based on an early Occamy concept. "The idea was that the's the all-America eagle. You could imagine him at the top of a totem pole,"says VFX supervisor Christian Manz.

"One of the more delightful aspects of the story is that you're taken in to it by Jacob," says David Yates. "And we are Jacob. We experiencedmany of these things from his point of view. And he's delightful."

Employed in a canning factory and living in a tenement on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Jacob has only just returned to the United States from France after serving in World War 1, a conflict that ended eight years before.

Jacob becomes incredibly fascinated wtih this other universe."

"Queenie is an angel," says Fogler. "The two of them start to fall in love and it gives Jacob a real reason to stick around, but in the wizarding world there are strict laws that say we're not allowed to be together. It's forbidden, which mirrors the racism of the time. It's really beautiful how J.K Rowling parallels all these cultural issues in the story."

"[When] Jacob gets thrown into this magical adventure, he can't quite believe it," says producer David Heyman. "Things haven't gone his way. However, he has always remained an enthusiast, full of possibility, believing in the possibilities of life and when he encounters these magical folk, he sees a whole world he could have never imagined."

Jacob's clothes are much more rumpled and baggier, again are flection his character. "Jacob's what you'd describe as a schlub,"notes costume designer Colleen Atwood. "We meet him trying to get a loan from a bank and while most men of that era wore a tie, pulled themselves together, and had a suit that looked like presentable, Jacob has so little money he has to buy used clothes. But because of his shape, they don't fit." Also, he doesn't own a coat. "I  add it on purpose. There's a poverty to not having a coat in the coldness."

Porpentina Goldstein, or Tina for short, works in the Wand Permit Office of the Magical Congress of the United States of America having been recently been demoted from her position as an Auror in the Investigations Department for an infraction that resulted in her exposure as a witch to No-Majs.

"She broke the rules in order to protect someone who was introuble," explains actress Katherine Waterston of Tina who also has to wear an Admonitor bracelet as a result of her recklessness. "Though she's really proud to be a part of MACUSA and dreams of succeeding there, when push comes to shove she will abandon the rule book. I found it really touching. She loves the rules, but if someone's in trouble, she can't help herself.

When Tina first meets Newt in Fantastic Beasts and Where to FindThem, their interaction couldn't be any less romantic: she arrests him in an alleyway outside Steen National Bank and brings him to MACUSA for processing."My general sense of who he is at the beginning is he's dangerous and untrustworthy, and probably kind of cute," laughs Katherine Waterston."Part of what I love about Tina is she's flawed and often doesn't achieve what she is pursuing or things don't work out for her [like] she hopes. But she is good at her job and the moment she sees Newt she knows something is going on, even though she doesn't exactly know what. And that, to me, was the first clue that she's not a total disaster. She has good instincts. She knows she has a lot of potential, but can't seem to convince people of it.

He's very isolated in his work. She is taking care of her sister because they lost their parents when they were young. They're two people who really haven't had too much time to have a good time. In contrast to Jacob and Queenie who are much freer."

Tina lives with her sister, Queenie (actress-Alison Sudol), who also works at MACUSA, in a brownstone in Midtown Manhattan. Being orphans, they look out for each other as best they can. "They parent teach other in different ways - they are very different women," says Waterston. "I'm a bit more the father and she's bit more the mother. She's got a very generous maternal quality. She cooks beautiful, elaborate meals. And maybe in their loneliness they've fallen into that dynamic [of] where I'm trying to be the breadwinner and she's doing the ironing. On some level it's a throwback relationship. On another level they're like two kids in their bunk bed."

"Katherine plays the darker side of the sisters," says Fogler, whose character Jacob falls for Queenie. "She's more cerebral, but also has this great vulnerability. Katherine's a fantastic actress and what she brings to the role is a very specific sensitivity, but also strength. Each one of them is trying to find themselves. They're all fish out of water; quirky misfits who form this little family. And each one has something that is beneficial to save the day."

I think that's something we all want to do. We all want to be part of a gang."

Most people are not one thing. We all have lots of different, often contradictory qualities bubbling to the surface all the time. We all [have] these different levels of fear and courage, confidence and desire."

"The thing I like about Tina is the complexity," concludes Waterston. "She's inconsistent, she has strengths and weakness and though she's sometimes quite courageous, she can also be intimidated by certain dynamics and situations. She's very soulful, she has a lot of heart, and a bit of ambition in the best sense of the word. She has a deep belief in herself but hasn't quite figured out how to [utilize it]."

Tina's outfit, says Atwood, were determined by both her personality and the fact that she's been demoted from her position of an Auror at MACUSA and is trying to work her way back into favor with her bosses. "Tina is one of those quirky girls, a bit gawky, not quite there in her body. I made the decision to put her in trousers from the start, which was not so common in the period but did exist. She's hiding a lot, doing her own private eye thing, so I gave her a trench coat with a really big collar she could tuck her head behind."

She's trying to go from A to B, but Jacob inspires her to feel fun and playful. It's fun to let go of worrying about what people might think of you, and embrace being a kid [again]."

As for Queenie, Atwood imbued Tina's sister's outfits with a sense of fun."There was an element of air and light to it that I liked for Queenie. I made her a coat she wears a lot. I hade it woven. Underneath she wears a take on a witch's dress, but with a Twenties slant."

The home Tina shares with her sister Queenie is a two-room apartmentspread over one floor of a brownstone. Originally written to be their mother's apartment, the styling is "more the taste of an older generation in its furnishing," Craig explains.

It is principally two room with what is called apocket door, a sliding door in between the two. In our case, one was the living room and the back was a shared bedroom. The kitchen was one corner of the living space. It was a big house by definition but they had a very small part of it.They lived very modestly."

 "He's very high up the command chain and is there to investigate anyone who is potentially detrimental to wizard-kind,trifling with Dark Arts," says Colin Farrell who plays Graves. "He would get involved if there was an attack against wizards from No-Majs as well. But it's mostly the maintenance, the protection and the upholding of the laws we have set forth in North America to protect wizard-kind. He's highly skilled, he's incredibly well trained, and incredibly powerful."

"Credence is a young man who, like so many young men, seems lost in life," says Farrell. "The world is a mystery to him, as he is a mystery to himself. There's a little bit of manipulation, a little bit of guidance, and a little bit of support and tenderness [in their relationship]."

For Colin Farrell's high-ranking Auror, costume designer Colleeen Atwood opted not to dress him in typical wizard attire. "I didn't want togive him a robe. I wanted to do a slighly elegant, dandy thing with hiswaistcoat and collar. Colin [Farrell] is a beautiful man and I wanted to empower him, so I exaggerated things with huge spat boots and bigger shoulders, like a Joan Crawford shoulders. We hade different sizes for different shots. I also gave him a black and white clerical vibe and wanted his coat to have that sweep. I found this amazing cashmere that had a shine but not enough it looked blingy. He wore it well.

"Colleen did a lot of work for me," says Farrell."Really gorgeous threads. Great big long coat that bordered on being acloak. It had that priestly feel that was representative of [Graves']life, his ideologies and beliefs and discipline. Colleen killed it." And particularly the scene in MACUSA's Pentagram Office where hundreds of wizards and witches from all over the world have gathered to discuss the worseningthreat level in New York City. "There must have been two hundred actorsand extras all in different costumes," Farrell continues. "Wizardsfrom Hungary, from Mongolia, from Russia, from Thailand, from Ireland, and fromPakistan. It was amazing. They all had culturally relevant garb but with alittle wizarding flourish. It was like the craziest version of the United Colors of Benetton."

Unlike the world of Harry Potter, the New York wizarding community that Newt finds himself in is one awash in fear and paranoia. "It's still very much a community that has yet to have full courage and conviction of its own power and presence," says Carmen Ejogo who plays the President of Magical Congress of the United States. "There is a lot of insecurity within the community - as to whether they should be given the same amount of respect and space as the No-Majs. That's the constant tension within the community whether they should stand up for themselves and be exposed or remain in the shadows."

Given that dilemma the responsibility of upholding MACUSA's Statue of Secrecy, often comes down to a political balancing act. "My essential task is to protect the wizarding community from being exposed because with exposure could come war and, potentially, the destruction of our community,"says Ejogo. "She's a politician at times, and with that comes the potential for being misunderstood. She has to some times play both sides. But she is passionate and committed to the community, and that is ultimately her objective, to keep them safe."

It'll be interesting to see how the audience takes to her dilemma ,because at times she has to do the thing the audience doesn't want to see happen to Newt and Tina. But that's being the head of MACUSA."

For MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery, Atwood was inspired by an early draft of the script to the character being from Africa. "I thought about West African turbans and showed one to David who said 'that would be amazing.' She also has a dress with the Thunderbird emblem on it, although when she's out in New York, I put her in a more tailored look and a magical coat like Graves, because they're the two more empowered wizards in the story."

Allof the operating floors are designed to be below the concourse. There were five or six levels of lower basement, one of which is where Tina and Queenie work.The more menial the job, the lower the level of basement, the more dreadful the conditions.”

As seen on the floor of MACUSA's main lobby as well as behind Seraphina Picuqery's throne in the Pentagram Office, the logo for the Magical Congress of the United States was the frist thing created by graphic designers MinaLima for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them using the phoenix, the bird of MACUSA, and the Stars and Stripes which, in 1926, featured just 48 states. "We looked at the Amercian seal, which is an eagle, and wanted it to have that sense of tradition and history Americans are familiar with and expect in an institution," says Miraphora Mina. "We deliberately deconstructed the flag so the 48 stars are breaking away and becoming part ofthe sky in a wizard way, as well as mixing the fire with the shape of the phoenix. But it also could be the wings. Again it needed to be anchored intraditon; it's an institution that has a bit of a dogma compared to the Ministry of Magic."

The room features a Real Time Hex Indicator which, as its namesuggests, details all magical activity across all forty-eight states of America.

Buried in the bowls of the Woolworth Building, in the actual bedrockof Manhattan itself, the Death Chamber is an exceedingly sinister setting."David [Yates] requested a very clinical, cold, austere, frightening place," explains Stuart Craig.

"Where it is, is a bit ambiguous," says Stuart Craig," We built it in the middle of the concourse, but you could say it was right at the top of the building. It was a room within a room."

Tina was interviewed in the middle of the open floor with everybody bearing down on her from tiered seats. It was good, intimidating space."

The New York Ghost is the newspaper of choice for North American witches and wizards. Designed by MinaLima to emulate the US papers of the era, notably The New York Times. The New York Ghost shares the same humorous headlines "WizJazz takes New York by Storm" and silly adverts as seen in the Daily Prophet in Harry Potter. "We brought the same spirit,"says Lima who designed both. Other notable magical publications include The Wizard's Voice and Transfiguration Today, which as stated on the front cover of the latest issue, welcomei ts newest contributor, one Albus Dumbledore.

"In the Harry Potter world, the magical and the non-magical live in harmony," says Katherine Waterston. "They're aware of each other and magic is much more accepted. In 1920s Amercia you find a very divided society. The magical community is very concerned and fearful of being exposed and there are hints throughout of Salem. And although it's not explored in great detail, you see the concern and fear of being exposed, and that is what gets Tina in trouble. By saving someone she exposes herself as a witch."

Ever since the Salem trials which brought about the formation of themagical Congress of the United States of Amercia, the ghosts of those tragicevents have hung darkly over the wizarding community, not least how they areperceived by No-Majs. "They're feared," says Colin Farrell.

     从高楼向外看去,是 见不到什么的。没有太阳,也没有什么白云,他往日总是住在这样的屋子里,将窗户关上,便连微风也感受不到。

       林荫道旁的梧桐叶,香杉和知更鸟,格雷夫斯是带着这样的味道来到他的身边。他滋生在阴暗的角落,阴翳的眼窥探这世界,他的心里住着皮得·潘,失落在永无岛。

       塞勒姆,巫师,吉卜赛像飓风在他的脑海里肆虐。

        在那些发传单的日子里,他唯一期待的的是与格雷夫斯的会面,就像在路上,他见到一朵白花,弱小,在风中微微颤抖。他蹲下来伸出手,似乎想要将它摘下,即将触碰,却听到一声呵斥,于是他慌张的收回,将目光蒙上一层层恐惧和阴影,沉默在纽约少有的潮阴里。他对于格雷夫斯似乎充满渴望,却永远向后瑟缩,躲避。

         现陪伴着他的是纳吉尼和他独自黑暗的力量,他的生命之光在默默然出现的一瞬变回本色,但他不在乎,一个连他自己都不知道是谁的人,无需认清他人身份。

         他沉默着追随预言,寻找它的本源,渴望着爱。当他再次见到格雷夫斯,与男人保持着安全的距离,仅远远的观望,他在找不回当时的触碰。但意外的,在巴黎,他找回来了那旷远的爱恋。

说这话时Gellert Grindelwald的眼神中流露出的深深的同情。那是他最渴望也最厌恶的东西,他不需要别人的同情怜悯,他只是,渴望那一点点的关爱。

你的家族有一个传说,无论谁有急需,凤凰就会出现。


他记得自己当时的震惊,当从自己手上被拿走的雏鸟被扔到空中时化作一团火焰,火光映在自己的脸上,在惊讶过后是莫大的恐惧,他究竟是谁,一瞬间他对自己的力量感到了前所未有的失控感,他感觉有种东西在自己的身体里横冲直撞,仿佛下一秒就会冲出身体。


他惴惴不安着,对真相又是期望又是害怕着。


这是你与生俱来的权利,我的孩子。就像这个我要告诉你的名字。


他看见对方缓缓地靠近,看见他眼眸中倒映出的,不安的,期待的,他自己的样子,他听着那个人在自己耳边低语到:


Aurelius.Aurelius Dumbledore.


他感觉自己的力量在那一刻得到了释放,他接过Grindelwald给他的魔杖。他用魔杖指着窗户,一个威力无比的魔咒把玻璃击得粉碎,劈开了对面的山峦。


在这之后便是极大的寂静,疑惑还有绝望,他得到了新的身份,那么他以后该是什么样子呢?他不再是Credence Barebone,而是Aurelius Dumbledore,他有着Dumbledore的姓氏,却在帮助着Gellert Grindelwald,这究竟算什么呢?


Credence顿时对Albus Dumbledore生出了一种无边无际的怒意,他对自己的姓氏充满了怨恨,他苦苦追求的事实让他深陷沼泽。


Credence将思绪拉回到现在,缓缓地转动手中的魔杖,房间瞬间变得昏暗起来,他死死盯着天花板,眉宇间充斥着阴晦的气息。


怪物还是活在黑暗中最好吧。


他将魔杖扔到一边,无声地沉默着。


他是谁?他用尽自己大半生寻找着这个问题的答案,结果却是他从未像现在这般迷茫,这般无助,他恨自己恨Dumbledore恨这世界上一切抛弃他的事物,一切他渴望的事物。他努力地想要改变自己,到头来,还是回到了最初的模样,还是一如既往的胆小,还是一如既往的懦弱无能。


想到这里Credence终于忍不住哭了出来,像几岁大的孩子得不到自己心爱的礼物一样,哭的悲切。


“吱——”房门被人打开。


光芒瞬间照进整个房间,Credence望着那人将口袋中的手帕拿出,轻轻地拭去自己眼角的泪水。


他感到自己早就停止跳动的心脏,再一次,疯狂的跳动起来。


写在最后,我可能没有把克雷登斯的心理描写写好啊哈哈哈(尴尬而又不失礼貌的微笑:)克雷登斯真的很戳我的心啊啊啊啊,他真的很好,我永远爱他呜呜呜。

梦中之眠

A Dream Within A Dream

 

 

她十多岁的时候,梦到过一个人。

其实纳吉尼从来无法肯定说,自己究竟是不是巫女,又或者有没有灵媒的能力。她出生的婆罗洲,确有泛灵信仰,近似于萨满教。可是传统萨满巫师的能力,在于治疗而不是预知。她从小颠沛流离,也没有受到过任何正统的魔法教育,谈不上是什么流派,甚至也没有对于自身能力过多的探析。只是她确乎会做预知梦。有一些时候,梦到的东西,确实也都成了真。从小到大,每到这种梦中场景与现实事物重合的时候,她的内心都有暗暗惊动,想这个世界上,或许没有详细的完整既定的命运,但是一切其实也都并无意外。渐渐掌握一点辨别梦境的能力,会期待哪一些被她记住的梦,或许有可能是会实现的。

她梦到过海岬。

那时候她还尚在婆罗洲。十岁之前的经历,如今想来,比她所有的梦境更像是幻觉。无非是生于看似普通的家庭,后来意识到自身血源不同寻常,遂即被六亲抛弃。十二岁之后,被血脉所累,逃进雨林之中,再后来被捕捉珍奇异兽的商人抓获,此后十数年,辗转在各色马戏团与商贩手中。第一次被困囿于笼中的时候,是在驶离南亚的货船上。浑身疼痛难忍,好像四肢都不是自己的,额头与面颊火烫,四肢却冰冷,几无知觉。视线之中几乎一片黑暗,腹中饥饿难忍。近处有海浪的声音,隔着一层罩住笼子的麻布,与铁皮船舱,又好像离她很远。一声一声拍打,声声催人入眠。她很茫然地跪坐在那里想,不知道自己会被带去哪里。去的那个地方,也不知道,有没有吃的东西呢。

后来不知道怎么,浑浑噩噩,最终竟然还是倚着铁栅栏睡着。

那一天她梦见被皑皑白雪覆盖住的海岬角。视线所及范围之中,只有一望无际的蓝色海洋。水面下,有巨大冰山,看了叫人害怕。身后山丘上,生满黑色的,参天蔽日的树。枝干挺直,没有一点宽大叶子,与她惯常所见的丛林完全不同。那时候,她还从未见过海洋或者针叶林。当然也无从得知,那梦中的一切,究竟是不是真实存在,又究竟是在哪里。梦境并无情节,她只是梦见自己孤身一人,走在雪地之中,走过那片森林,走过石子的海滩,然后长久驻足于堤岸上,凝望没有边际的海洋。

后来她被卖去了马戏团。

若干年之后,巡演的马戏团辗转到北欧,其中一站,是挪威卑尔根。

这城市拥有绵长破碎的海岸线,城镇尽头是半岛。她趁白天马戏团排练,独自一人在城中乱走。一身瑙珠绣片的长裙,在麻瓜的世界之中,无比突兀。那时候她还没有想逃,因为没有去处。无非只是想看一看这个陌生的地方,想看一眼,这世上其他人,究竟是怎么活着的。那时候是挪威的冬天,卑尔根刚刚下过大雪,整座城市如洒满糖霜的姜饼屋,石板路面叫人寸步难行。距城中心马戏团驻扎的地方,大约跋涉数十分钟,就能走到小城的尽头。城市的建筑物在身边一点一点,渐渐褪去。剩下一片无人涉足过的,纯白色的雪地。身侧耸干入云的,黑色的巨树。她带着一点茫然,孤身踏过雪地,一路向前。

针叶林的尽头是很简陋的木质栈桥,向海面之中延伸。

再往前走。

视线之中,只剩下了海洋。墨蓝色的,她十二岁时候,梦境之中的海洋。

海天相会,幻梦与现实相拥。

她不顾寒冷,伸出双手去,轻轻拂去了栈桥木质扶手上的积雪。

落雪在手中紧攥成团,绵密冰冷,刺痛了手心皮肤。她这才有一点相信,眼前一切,并不是自己的幻觉。忽然间有一点困惑,有一点茫然。想这一切的意义,究竟是什么。如果她能看到未来,哪怕只是管中窥豹一样,零星的一点,究竟又是为什么,什么都不能改变。她所谓的预知梦,说到底,也只有事后,才能被证明其价值。那时候她站在巨大的天穹之下,世界无边无际。抬头望去,只觉得走到哪里,其实还是身在十二岁时侯,载她离开婆罗洲的那艘货船上,那个冰冷的铁笼中。

世界庞大,而她小如蝼蚁。

她在那世界尽头的海岬上站了很久,直到手脚都快要在冰雪与寒风中失去知觉。四肢冰冷,好像十二岁那一年,梦中见到此处时,现实中的自己。

她独自一人逃离马戏团,再回去的时候,已经被发现。且不管是因为什么,且不管是不是真的想要逃走,都免不了被一顿毒打。记忆最深刻的,是被马戏班主抓起头发往铁笼的栏杆上撞,又拎起驯兽的皮鞭往她身上肆意鞭笞。这一种时候,只能咬牙不出声,闭上眼睛,告诉自己要忍耐。这世界是个庞大舞台,她不过是其中的一个演员。她的心,明明能看到一切,能看到更远的,地平线之外的东西。可是她的人,只不过是剧中的一个小角色。这剧中众生相,没有一张脸能足够入她的梦。现实中掌控着拥有着她的躯壳的人,不能也拥有她的精神世界。只有这样劝解自己,才能得到片刻解脱。

那一年她十五岁。

深夜无人的帐篷之中,拖着遍体鳞伤的躯壳,勉强将自己挪到了笼中一侧。面颊贴在冰冷的铸铁上,蜷缩成一团,好像是初生婴儿的姿势,又好像是蛇类休憩。伤痛交加,就这样陷入多梦的睡眠。

那天晚上,她做了自己人生之中,映像最深刻,也是最重要的一个梦。

梦境的内容很简单。

她梦见自己站在某座陌生城市的屋脊之上,视线之中,俱是林立的大理石建筑。远处有座奇异的铁塔。很难用现有的常识来解释那座奇怪的金属结构,但梦境之中的她,并不觉得有什么奇异的样子,只是顺着矮护墙缓缓走。抬起头看淡蓝色的,风烟俱寂的天。缓缓回头。这一下,她第一次在自己的梦境之中感觉到惊诧。她的梦中,第一次,也是唯一一次,出现了别的人类。

那男孩坐在距她不远的地方。她看不清他的脸,甚至也没有听到他说话,可是她知道,梦中的他们两人,有种难以言喻的一体性。足够叫她看一眼对方,就忍不住想要露出微笑。

这个人,对她很重要。这个场景,对她很重要。但她还不得而知究竟是为什么。

梦中忽然有个声音,是她自己的嗓音,但是又有什么微妙的不同。对她讲,说你要相信,你会活到这个时候。不要拘泥于眼前的困难,想一想你的未来。

如是七年。

她随着马戏团在世界各地巡演,始终在夹缝之中生存,渐渐长成了成年女性的样子。马拉喀什,舍夫万沙,柏林,卢布尔雅那。她走遍东欧,北非,西德,甚至一度经过以色列。每到一个地方,都会寻找机会,短暂地去这些城市的街头巷尾走一走。不是为了逃离,是为了寻觅。她用尽自己有自主意识的全部时间,寻觅那个梦中的人。甚至连自己也不知道,就算找到了究竟能如何。那是她贫瘠单调的人生之中,唯一的希望。动辄出走,当然伴随着更严苛的刑罚和更残酷的生存条件。她二十二岁的那一年,已经彻底被马戏班主关进了铁笼中,只有在极少数特殊的时刻,才会放她自由活动。

那年他们驻扎在巴黎。

城市对于她来说,其实已经不甚重要。她眼前能看得到的世界,只有帐篷的防水布,和禁锢她的铁栅栏。马戏团即将开演的时候,有人在她的帐篷之中也放了闲置的海报。就是在那个时候,她认出了海报上,高耸入云的铁塔。极短暂地闭上眼睛。不知道为什么,心里竟然有一点凄惶。这世上并无命运,可是一切事物的进展,也都不出意外。她从世界角落的婆罗洲雨林之中,走了二十二年,终于走到了这一天。

她遇见了克雷登斯。

多么奇异的问题。

他问她许多问题,她也问他许多问题。隔着那座铁笼,好像说尽了一生的话。他知道她是什么,她也知道他是什么。他们两人,在黑夜笼罩,万籁俱寂的马戏团帐篷之中,彼此互换生平。他讲他从小在纽约长大,她说自己生在婆罗洲。他讲自己是在追寻生母,追寻身世。她说自己没有值得追寻的身世,血源已经抛弃了她,最重要的是,自己长成什么样的人。那男孩并不说话,看她的眼神,竟然即使在黑暗之中,也叫她想要避开眼睛。说一切,给彼此看自己身上累累的伤痕。谈这个世界,说世界不应该只局限于困囿我们的牢笼。讲到这里,那孩子伸出手,轻轻地,轻轻地蹭了一下她嘴角的淤血。

她忽然有一点凄惶,想你我二人之间,有某种联系。我还不知道是什么样子的联系,更不知道会如何发展。我不知道你对于我来说,是什么样的存在。她只知道,她能从一点细微的声音,辨别出克雷登斯的存在。没有任何道理,没有逻辑可循,但她知道那是他。只要他靠近她的笼子,甚至她都不必听见他说话,不必听见脚步声,只要有一点点动作,她都知道,那是他。

多么奇怪,想到那个男孩子,她将其与之对应的,并不是名字。硬要说克雷登斯,甚至她都会有片刻怔愣,无法将姓名与人,一下子联系到一起。而那个男孩子,初见时刻,念诵她的名字,发音也多有困难。对于他们两人来说,彼此的存在不需姓名。只有她,与他。

他们两人相拥取暖,好像这样,就能溶去世界刺骨的冰冷。

后来他们终于出逃,对于彼此来说都不是第一次,但是真真正正地逃离那个马戏团,对于她来说,是从前几乎不敢想的。不是因为做不到,是因为无处可去,无处藏身。他们穿过麻瓜的市集,在巴黎肮脏的街巷之中休憩,夜晚睡在已废弃的旧宅阁楼,依旧是在这世界的夹缝之中。那时候她真的觉得他们两人自由了吗。也许在某一种程度上来说是的。但是又没有这么简单。

她还记得那一天的日出。

睁开眼睛的那一刻,看见天际云霞漫卷,那个拥抱着她入睡的男孩已经不在身边。纳吉尼从地面上缓慢地站起来,走到高窗下,看见窗外暖金色的朝阳,笼罩在整个巴黎城市上空。顺着铁梯爬出去,站到屋顶上。她第一眼看见的,是天际高耸的巴黎铁塔。长风吹过空洞的街巷,吹过大理石筑成的建筑群。从来没有人告诉过她,巴黎铁塔,在日出下,其实是粉色的。但是,她已经知道了。

她曾来过此地。曾见过眼前的一切。

无声地,对自己略带嘲讽地笑一笑。她还是安静地走过去,走到她梦中的男孩身边,轻轻坐下来,将头颅依靠在他的肩膀上。她眼睁睁看着黑雾从他的躯壳之中升腾而起,巴黎的屋脊之上,风烟俱寂,那飘忽的雾气,好像就在明净的苍穹之下,翩翩舞蹈。像成群迁徙的候鸟,又像是黑色的极光。她站了起来,顺着矮护墙,缓缓地随着黑雾向前走。她身上,那一袭瑙珠绣片的,近乎于滑稽的戏服,一样在风中列列飞扬。她的一生之中,从来没有见过这样瑰丽的画面,就算是在梦中,也是一样。她迎着日光,仰起脸,看黑雾温柔地,温柔地向她笼罩下来,从她的胸腔之中,飘忽穿过。

像他们两人之间的拥抱。

像他用他的灵魂,极尽温柔地,拥抱住了她的心脏。

她用尽了一生在寻找的,就是这一幕画面。

为了一个梦,穷尽了自己的一生。

她的手臂也轻轻抬起来,好像是在回应那男孩一样,好像也想要抱住他飘忽的灵魂。

金色的日光映照之下,她缓缓转过身,对克雷登斯露出微笑。

从那一天开始,她就始终知道,其实他们两人,也并不能长久相伴。

她知道。

因为她在他们两人相拥入眠的夜晚,那天的梦中,看到过蓝色的火焰。

总还有那么一些时候,不相信命运,总觉得只要足够用力,就可以抓住对方。

所以即使在梦中看过一千遍,她也还是会在蓝色火焰映亮彼此脸庞的时候,伸手去拉住那个少年人。

情愿相信,自己不是不可抗力的时间的受害者。她偏居于属于自己的世界的一隅,像给自己解谜题的小孩一样,试图用梦境,和预知的魔法,给自己制造出一种人生也有剧本,或者本质是一种游戏的错觉。好像如此,就能营造出一种掌控住自身命运的错觉。

其实所有人,也都是一样。

这世上所有人,都不过被时间和宿命囚禁。大部分人活在幸福的无知中,只有她明明知道。相聚也好,离别也好,生死也好,最终不可避免的化蛇也好。结局不会改变。

  格雷夫斯第一次注意到克里登斯的手指是克里登斯在他的面前跟着家里那只小精灵学了着针线活,他不懂为什么克里登斯要学,明明魔法一挥,针线就能自由地动起来,克里登斯笑了笑,没说什么。

  格雷夫斯开始有意无意看着克里登斯。准确的说,是克里登斯的手。那双有伤痕却长得很漂亮的手。
  克里登斯平常不做事坐着的时候,会把手安放在并拢的双腿上,头微微低着,那双手微微被压起,弧度向上,拇指扣在大腿内侧,其余四指安静而自然放着。有的时候,他会紧张焦虑,食指指甲被虎牙磕弄,一下又一下,克里登斯皱着眉头牙齿划伤自己的指甲。早上起床的时候他会在餐厅为他的先生沏一壶茶,手指勾住把手,拇指指腹按压着玻璃,格雷夫斯仿佛能看到柔软的指腹被压出一个小小的痕迹,又或是晚上格雷夫斯回到家中,偶尔心情颇佳的克里登斯会大胆地去迎接他的先生,手指勾住他的围巾为他取下,格雷夫斯会感受到手指的触碰,温暖而干燥。克里登斯的单纯会洗净格雷夫斯的烦闷,他的手指像带着魔力抹除格雷夫斯的负面情绪。

  克里登斯喜欢甜食,他有个坏习惯,喜欢用手指沾入芝士蛋糕搅弄一下然后舔干净自己的手指,沾染上白腻膏体的手指会被衬托得更加的可爱,像是带着甜味。格雷夫斯后知后觉地发现这种坏习惯在他注意上克里登斯的手指后越发变本加厉。克里登斯开始有意或者无意的舔舐自己的手指,在他视线的余光中,带着无辜的眼神舔着指尖上的调料和糕点。格雷夫斯眯了眯眼睛,他知道他的男孩并不是时时刻刻都是个乖孩子。

Nagini不自覺地倒抽了一口涼氣,顫着的手默默把手機鎖上並放回兜裡。外表假裝冷靜地繼續聽McGonagall教授專治失眠的課,心裡卻思忖着放學去音樂系的教學樓one on one堵截自己男朋友。


我們「不會唱歌的白娘子」太太,也真是人如其網名,不懂唱之餘也歌庫庫存有限。只可惜,誰叫她愛上了個準歌手,因此Nagini還專門去邊看着歌詞,邊聽了一遍這首老是常出現的歌。


歌裡一堆Born啊Die啊Sad啊Cry啊的,確實聽到Nagini心驚膽跳,再加上一個星期總有那麼五六次的詭異分享頻率,她覺得,Credence一定是有什麼不快事壓心底,無處訴說。



「嗯?沒有啊。為什麼這樣問呢,Gini?」



望着眼前燦笑得像個一米八的傻孩子的Credence,彷彿那個在面書上用悲歌屠版的人不是他似的。


Nagini不禁陷入了沉思,開始懷疑他是被盜了號。要不問一下特哥哥他們能不能開個小差,幫她查查是哪個不思進取不想好好活着的敢盜D&G子公司本尊的號。

Nagini完全控制不住自己腦袋,由生命滿希望前路由我創刷到辦法總比困難多這一系政府勵志廣告,努力地舉例證明出哪句比較適合用來安慰口不對心的男票。



不,萬一不是被盜號,而是被綁架呢?!

當Nagini快要腦補到撕票了要不要為對方守寡一輩子時,她絲毫沒察覺自己已經走進了不知該叫老爺抑或是奶奶的某鄧姓教授之視線範圍內。



「新、抱、仔~」



差點沒被這句語調十分調皮的叫喚,嚇到手滑按下撥出打了個call給忒Sir。Nagini驚恐得像伊藤潤二筆下的主角,剎那間面上彷彿多了很多度陰影。她慢轉身,瞿然而視。



「Pro、Professor?你剛剛叫我啥?」

「哈哈,跟Gellert 叫習慣了,My apology~」



Albus臉上掛着面對學生專用的職業假笑,像是不經意地順了順梳得一絲不苟的紅髮,尷尬而又不失禮貌地順利把話題扯開。



「先不說這個,Nagini你是怎麼了?愁雲慘霧的。」



當下事情發展太快已經超越龍卷風,理科女孩一時之間梳理不了腦中的千頭萬緒,口裡支支吾吾的,一副欲語還休的樣子。


見狀,Albus下意識把眼光遊移到Nagini平坦的小腹上,若有所思。



「Professor Dumbledore,我生物課再差也知道自己是不能單性繁殖的,謝謝。」



正想暗自感嘆兒子好腰好腎好男人,卻被率真得過分的兒媳婦一下子給住腦了,Albus帶點失望的撇了撇嘴。


突然,手機發出了一聲清脆響亮的提示鈴,只見Nagini慌忙地滑開了通知,細閱着裡面的最新動態。


Albus思考着,這模樣這神情,他覺得很熟悉,甚至還有些親切。就像他在校內內聯網發功課deadline日期時,本來坐一旁悠然地擰一擰舔一舔浸一浸吃着Oreo的Credence兀的點開手機然後緊張地抬頭望向掛牆日曆用眼睛算日子。


如出一徹、近墨者黑、物以類聚,文學系教授人生第一次決定不到用哪個詞形容更為恰當。

「Professor,老老實實,Credence這陣子是不是過得不快樂不開心?」



Albus腦海中閃過昨晚兒子吃雞到深夜的畫面,堅定地搖了搖頭。



「那為什麼他這陣子都在面書上發這些東西啊?」



Nagini眼眨淚光地把手機遞給了Albus,語調中的不穩全都反映出她內心的不安與擔憂。取出西裝馬甲胸口衣袋裡的眼鏡戴上,Albus好奇地閱覽着螢幕顯示的幾行細字,不由得心中考量是什麼能把好好的一個女孩兒快憂心出閨怨來。

Albus翻了個白眼,然後溫柔地拍了拍擔心得快哭出來的Nagini的肩,再語重深長地向她解釋着。



「孩子別怕。其實,Credence的意思是他準備今天晚上吃雞,然後明早逃掉830的早課。」

不用照鏡子,Nagini也知道自己眼下的表情能成為第十個黑人問號表情包。知子莫若母,但原來這些又Die又Cry的悲壯歌詞還能有這樣解讀方法,真是漲知識了。


音樂依家嘢我識條鐵咩。



「其實呢,這是他爹Gellert的表達方式,只是不知Credence是什麼時候學得如此徹底。」



看到滿臉我是誰我在哪的Nagini,有教無類的Albus發揮多年累積而來的教學職業病,細心又仔細地回憶曩懷中——Gellert從年青時就是這樣子,總不愛好好說話,偏要用非人類式的方法表達自己,而他管這叫藝術。要不是我是個文科生,誰看得懂他那些千千靜聽一樣的情信啊。雖然他現在也沒改過來,但已經收斂了許多了。


語畢,Albus臉上痛心疾首的苦笑,漸漸變得有了溫度,似是懷緬,又帶點陶醉。Nagini感覺這笑容有點刺眼,明明大家都是現充,為什麼被喂到滿嘴狗糧的還是我,公平咩。



「比如說這則吧。」



拿出最新款的iPhone XS,Albus熟練地點開了Gellert的面書主頁,把他最新的那則動態推給Nagini看看。

「我在上課,然後他就發神經似的說我不回他Whatsapp。」

Nagini感覺到那扇傳說中的新世界大門已經開到快要變成自動門了。她用手指在輕觸式屏幕上輕輕刷了刷,停在另一則小清新型動態上,慢慢地由震驚過渡到點點好奇的眼神,期待着Albus神一般的解說。

「Professor,我好像明白了Credence今早發的那條Status什麼意思了。」

Nagini目睹逐漸變黑又得立即變黑晒亦得得咗的Albus,從慈母笑變為了嚴父樣,聲音不由自主地越說越小。不小心出賣了男朋友,她心情複雜得想就地向Holy Father懺悔。


Albus示意把她的手機借自己一用,Nagini冷不丁的差些雙腿一軟噗通一聲就往下跪,戰戰競競地把手機呈了上去。


憑藉反正都點開了,不看白不看的心態,Albus壓着怒火,心安理得地往下刷着兒子的主頁,順道觀察觀察他平常暪了自己多少事情。不看由自可,一看就把幾火。天下間父母看自己總愛陽奉陰違的子女們的社交平台,通常都只有兩種結果,一是生氣,二是非常生氣。

繼續專注地滑着兒子的動態,Albus本來嚴父的神色卻逐漸地退化成看智障的眼神。都是什麼亂七八糟的中二少年隨筆,難委我們單純的Nagini還要為自己這糟心兒子操碎了心,真覺得對不起人家好女兒啊。


Albus 心裡認真盤算着要不要跟Credence說別回Gellert那住了,回學生宿舍,再不然跟他住教職員宿舍都比和老父親住強多了。


上樑不正下樑歪,好的不學,壞的全跟他爸一個樣的中二病。就像別人學粵語,除了你好再見謝謝外什麼都不會說,但十八個字粗口倒學得順口到飛起來。



然而,一條破壞了隊形的舊動態,措不及防地溜進了Albus一目十行的藍眸裡。

Nagini對剛剛還刷文刷得像捉姦似的Albus,眨眼之間翻面比翻書還快的舉動深感困惑。一邊靜靜凝視他怒火中燒的背影,一邊默默聽他用她手機懟到某魔體無完膚的怒言,一邊乖乖地張嘴吃着這突如其來從天而降的瓜。



「Gellert Grindelwald,兩星期前我要加班改作業沒回家睡那晚上,你是不是把弗客使連籠帶鳥掛出去園子了?!那晚雨下那麼大,難怪之後牠病了足足一個多星期,還掉了一地羽毛!在你反省自己過錯之前,別想進的房間。再!見!」



一口氣罵完,連反駁機會都不留給對方,Nagini覺得Credence在rap方面天份或者並不是遺傳自他搞音樂的老父親。

Albus會心微笑了一下,喟嘆年青真好,而又情不自禁地想起Gellert當年向他表白,那個笨拙卻又無比可愛的模樣。他把手機交回Nagini手裡,並在她耳邊細聲地說了些話。
