Nik

Nik

Nik

Nik

"You're Not Alone"
(feat. Britt Nicole)

[Adam:]
Some days I barely hold on
When life drags me down
I wanna let go
But when my spirit is weak
You come to my aid
And strengthen my soul

I’m lost without You
I’ll never doubt You
Your grace is beyond compare
And though when it rains, it pours
You know all I have is Yours
You smile when you hear my prayer

You rescued me and I believe
That God is love and He is all I need
From this day forth for all eternity
I’ll never wander on my own
For I am Yours until you call me home
I close my eyes and I can hear You say
You’re not alone!
You’re not alone!

[Britt:]
Some days I just can’t go on
I stumble and fall
And I hang my head
But You reach out for my hand
And You lift me up
Again and again
Oh, yes, You do

[Both:]
I’m lost without You
I’ll never doubt You
Your grace is beyond compare
And though when it rains, it pours
You know all I have is Yours
You smile when you hear my prayer
You rescued me and I believe
That God is love and He is all I need
From this day forth for all eternity
I’ll never wander on my own
For I am Yours until you call me home
I close my eyes and I can hear You say
You’re not alone!
You’re not alone!

[Adam:]
In the face of my depravity

[Britt:]
For God so loved the world He died for me
Yeah

[Both:]
My fire burns ‘til He returns
And takes me home beyond the galaxy

[Britt:]
You rescued me and I believe
That God is love and He is all I need
From this day forth for all eternity

[Adam:]
All eternity!

[Both:]
I’ll never wander on my own
For I am Yours until you call me home
I close my eyes and I can hear You say
You’re not alone!

You’re not alone
Never alone...

What is a Code of Conduct

As you study the Bible you will see that all the great men and women of God formed personal codes by which they lived. Psalm 101 is a perfect example wherein David states what he will and will not do, saying:

“I will sing of loving kindness and justice.”

“I will give heed to the blameless way.”

“I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart.”

“I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.”

“I will know no evil.” (vv 1-4)

He makes it personal using the expression, “I will” thus showing his conviction and resolution. No wonder he was a man after God’s own heart. Only when he violated his own code of conduct did he get into trouble.

Others who had a personal code of conduct would include Joshua who said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15) and Peter who declared, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Job made a covenant with his eyes that he would not gaze at a virgin (Job 31:1) and Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or wine (Dan. 1:8). Paul coveted no one’s silver or gold or clothes (Acts 20:33) but allowed others to make a living from the gospel (1 Cor. 9:14). All were men of strong convictions who lived out what they believed.

Every follower of Christ needs to do the same. Not only is it important for you to know what you believe (doctrine) but it is also important for you to know how God wants you to behave (conduct). Begin to form your own code of conduct. Write down in your Bible what you will and will not do and then stick to it. If you read in the Bible, “Let him who steals, steal no longer” (Eph. 4:28) write down next to it, “I will not take what does not belong to me.” You will find that your own convictions will grow stronger and your character will develop. In essence a code of conduct says, “This is what I believe, so this is what I will do.”

How Important is Conduct?

Throughout Scripture one theme is the same - if you faithfully follow the Lord's commandments your life will be blessed. God has prepared many good things for those who love Him. He created the Garden of Eden, the Promised Land, and Paradise. All were made for man and his enjoyment if only man would obey the Lord and do things His way. God also designed the family, society and the church for man to enjoy but these too come with divine guidelines as to how God desires man to live and conduct himself. Fortunately God has given us the Holy Scriptures to read and meditate on so we can know His will. Blessed is the man who seeks the Lord and walks in His path. The Bible says, “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers” (Ps. 1:3).

Unfortunately many do not follow God's plan for their lives and suffer the consequences. Satan and one third of the angels rebelled against God and were thrown out of heaven (Rev. 12:4). Adam and Eve disobeyed and were driven from the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:24). God’s people turned to other gods and were exiled from the Promised Land (Dan. 1:1). The Apostle Paul removed from the church those who practiced wickedness (1 Cor. 5:13). And there will be those who will not be in the Holy City because of their immorality (Rev. 22:15). Jesus warned of this. In the parable of the ten virgins half of those who were looking for the Lord’s return were left behind. Even though they cried, “Lord, Lord” they had no oil and did not shine (Mt. 25:1-13). In the Sermon on the Mount there were also those who cried, “Lord, Lord” but Jesus said, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Mt. 7:23).

Clearly how one conducts himself is important. It can either bring blessings or curses, both in this life and the life to come. Jesus said you can judge a tree by its fruit (Mt. 7:20). If you love the Lord you will bear good fruit.

Jesus Christ – Keeping and Teaching God's Commandments

When Jesus began His ministry He stated that He didn't come to change the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. He took what was already established by Moses and built upon it until it was perfected, each time setting the standard higher. When the Law said, “You shall not commit murder,” Jesus said you are not even to be angry with your brother. When the Law said, “You shall not commit adultery,” Jesus said you are not even to look upon a woman to lust after her in your heart. When the Law said, “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,” Jesus said if someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. In all things He taught His disciples how to talk in love and be perfect as their heavenly Father is perfect. (Mt. 5:17-48)

Proper conduct was extremely important to Christ who not only taught man how to live but demonstrated it with His own life. If you study all the things Christ taught and then compare them to all the things He did you will find that His life was in perfect harmony with the commandments of God and everything He said in word, He practiced in deed. And He taught His disciples to do the same. Not only were they to teach the commandments of God but they were to live godly lives and so set an example for others to follow.

Both keeping and teaching the commandments of God were essential to Christ. He made a promise that, “Whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt. 5:19) If you take the original code of conduct – the Ten Commandments – and add the teachings of Christ you can form a Christian Code of Conduct. You now have a manual for Christian living. And this can be used as a guide to help you in both keeping and teaching the commandments of God. And if you keep His commandments Jesus promised to love you and make Himself real to you (Jn. 14:21). The next step is to learn what a code of conduct is and how you can form one of your own.

What is A Code of Conduct

As you study the Bible you will see that all the great men and women of God formed personal codes by which they lived. Psalm 101 is a perfect example where in David states what he will and will not do, saying:

“I will sing of loving kindness and justice.”

“I will give heed to the blameless way.”

“I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.”

“I will know no evil.” (vv 1-4)

He makes it personal using the expression, “I will” thus showing his convictions and resolution. No wonder he was a man after God's own heart.

1:8). The Ten Commandments – The Original Code of Conduct

There are very few things in Scripture actually written by God’s own hand. One of these is the Ten Commandments. Following the exodus from Egypt God led His people to the base of Mt. Sinai where they camped in a large plain. Moses was told to consecrate the people and keep them off the mountain lest they die. Three days later a thick cloud surrounded the mountain and the people saw flashes of lightning and heard peals of thunder and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder and the people trembled. God called Moses to the top of the mountain and for forty days revealed to him the way He desired His people to live. When He finished speaking God gave Moses two tablets of stone containing the Ten Commandments. Scripture records they were written by the finger of God. (Ex. 19-31)

The giving of the Ten Commandments was an awesome event. It was witnessed by all the people of Israel. And these commandments have become one of the most amazing pieces of literature ever written. They are the original code of conduct telling man exactly how God wants him to live. They cover all the basic areas of our lives including: faithfulness, love, integrity, church, family, society, morals, finance, truth and peace. They are known for their simplicity yet are profound in their depth. They have become the foundation upon which civilization is built and generations have been blessed who follow them.

Moses was used powerfully of God to establish His law. Before his death he prophesied there would come one after him from among their countrymen who would be like him and he told them to listen to him (Deut. 18:15). This reference was to Jesus who would become the refiner of the law (Acts 7:37). And like Moses He taught man to obey God’s commandments.

The Way of the Lord

There is a way God wants man to live. Throughout the Bible thisis referred to as the way of the righteous, the blameless way, the establishedway, the pure way, the narrow way, the way of peace, the way of truth, and theway of God. Man is instructed to fear the Lord and walk in all His ways. He isnot to turn aside to the right or to the left but he is to stay on the Lord'spath that things may go well with him and his days be prolonged. Indeed therighteous man will study God's Word and learn His ways so that he will know howto order his steps of the Lord and thus be pleasing to Him (Ps. 37:23).

The gospel of Jesus Christ begins with John the Baptist boldlyproclaming, "Make ready the way of the Lord, make His paths straight"(Mk. 1:3). The Lord was coming to show His people how to live. And Jesus taughtHis disciples how to walk in the path. He told them to , "Ener by thenarrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads todestruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, and theway is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it" (Mt.7:13,14). Jesus even said, "I am the way" and "no one comes tothe Father, but through Me" (Jn. 14:6).

The New Testament Christians even referred to their movement as"The Way" (Acts 9:2). Believers were encouraged to be blameless andinnocent in the midst of a crooked and perserse generation (Phil. 2:15). In allthings they were to avoid the deeds of darkness and never walk in the ways ofthe unrighteous.

The Christian Code of Conduct is a study of the way God wouldhave man live. There are ten basic areas in our lives presented in the TenCommandments which will be used as an outline. Upon this will be added theteachings of Christ and the New Testament church. Let us begin by looking atGod's original code of conduct - The Ten Commandments.
