Toy Box

Before I knew it, darkness enveloped me. It ate me up, just like how a monster would swallow it's victim whole, muffling the poor souls' screams and shrieks in agony as stomach acid melts them down, burning through their flesh and bones alive, little by little, until there is nothing left that could mutter a sound. If only that was the case. Oh, how I wanted that to be the case. 

The darkness smelled just the same as last time - of mold, damp basements, fear, and a stinging, suffocating odor of iron in the crimson I and many others have shed in the past. I gasped for air, despite the foul stench. My hands felt around, searching, until I found the wall I could only touch but have never seen. Even so, we knew each other all too well. Far too often, I had pounded on it until my fists became a lump of blood and flesh. Far too often, I tore at the cold, hard concrete until sharp pieces of nail broke off and sank deep into my fingertips. Far too often, I hoped ridiculously that, if I tried hard enough, it will crumble and collapse, and sunlight will finally find its way to me, shining a ray of warmth onto my skin. My hands and torso trembled uncontrollably. Tears streamed out of my eyes, leaving a trail of searing pain as they tumbled over the scabs and open wounds before falling to the floor. I could hear my weeping voice echo through the deafening silence, breaking me down bit, by bit, by bit until I became a soulless, lifeless figure. Just how he liked his toys to be. 

Footsteps. The sound of his footsteps shattered the last shred of my sanity. I yelled, and shrieked, and screamed, and begged and bawled until my voice gave out and once again I pounded against the wall, once again throwing my torn body at it, battering myself on that goddamn concrete barricade pleading for it to break down and let me out, out of the coffin that imprisoned me for what seemed like eternity while the footsteps got louder and louder and louder and LOUDER UNTIL —

The door opened with a bone chilling squeal.
