长难句1：

原文：Financial regulators in Britain have imposed a rather unusual rule on the bosses of big banks.

译文：英国的金融机构对大银行的管理层强加了一条非同寻常的规则。

分析:开篇首段首句运用了基本五大基本句型之一主谓宾结构，点名主题此句主语为Financial regulators，后置定语in Britain修饰前面的主语，谓语动词have imposed，宾语a rather unusual rule，后置定语 on the bosses of big banks修饰前面的宾语，这里需要注意一个固定搭配impose A on B，把A强加于B。

长难句2：

原文：Transient investors, who demand high quarterly profits from companies, can hinder a firm’s efforts to invest in long-term research or to build up customer loyalty.

长难句5：

原文：Customers were generally responsible for paying the sales tax to the state themselves if they weren’t charged it, but most didn’t realize they owed it and few paid.

译文：一般来说，消费者需要自己负担向州缴纳销售税，但是如果他们没有被征收的话，大部分不会意识到他们欠税了，并且也没有几个人会缴税。

解析：were generally responsible for这里的generally，表示一般情况下。副词的翻译方法，可以拆分，可以提前，灵活处理。

Charge这里是收取…费用，be charged即“被收取…费用”。

Few paid，这里的few是否定含义，表示“没几个人”。
