Project overview:This is a challenging UX project "time". Brainstorming and user researches are done in limited time. The outstanding aspects in this design are the concept and interaction.
User researches is done to record how much rubbish is made during a day by one person. Actually it is quiet a lot.
People buy products, use them and thow them into the rubbish bin, then the rubbish is produced. This whole process is visible and is quiet short compared with the time of garbage decomposition which is invisible. However, the process of decomposition has serious influence on earth.
Buy: the process of making decisions
Use: a long time period and not easy to be changed
Throw: create rubbish diectly and behavior in a moment
"Buy" is an opportunity.
Observation of buying process was done in the supermarket. It is found that there is a short spare time when people waiting in the queue.
What's more, there are three important aspects need to be considered:
1. Business aspect: The design should not influence sellers' business directly.
2. Emotion aspect: The design should not use disgusting prictures to make nagetive feeling to users. (It turns out that this method is not that useful.)
3. Cognition cost: This design need to make low cost of cognition for users that they don't need to spend to too much time to understand.
This is a digital intervention set in the supermarket for people who are waiting for cashier.
The screen shows a real-time sea level and temperature. When product are put on the conveyer belt, the sensor can detect the ingredients. It will show how much percent of the plastic and how much time it needs for decomposition. Polar bear, as a cute image aims to raise people' sympathy.
When people get their receipt, they can see the ingredients and decomposition time of the products they buy. This aims to give an imperceptible influence on people's awareness in a long term.
