Project overview: This project focus on the positive effects of sleep thourgh design and aims to give future concept related to products of Dreem.

Target User: People under sleep deprivation

01 DESK RESEARCH

Through brainstorming and wide desk research, "sleep deprivation" is found.

Sleep deprivation, also known as insufficient sleep,show a negative impact on mood, cognitive performance, and motor function due to an increasing sleep  propensity and destabilization of the wake state. 

Through the practical review, it is found that physical products on the market mainly include smart household products and siesta pillow. As for digital products, sleep aid, sleep monitoring and wake-up during the long-time sleep are their main functions.

These products help people sleep better in different stages and play a role in assisting sleep by mobilizing different senses of users, ignoring the effects of daytime sleep on the whole day.

This is the opportunity.

02 USER RESEARCH

Above is the experience map.

To find design opportunities, we made a map to describe the process of one  potential user sleeping in bus without our product. It starts from a tired person getting on the bus. he sat on an aisle seat and used his phone. The bus was  shaking and he was exhausted after a whole day's work, so he got sleepy and fell asleep after a while. He couldn't have a stable and comfortable posture, at the same time he was  worried about his belongs and alert to sound and movement around him. A man passed by and bumped into his seat, the sleeping person woke up with a start and checked if his bag was still there. 

Later, he got a window seat, he could lean against the window to sleep. But to avoid missing the stop, he dared not to sleep after a little while. The environment was unstable. His needs, thinkings, experiences were also changing  during this process.

1. Why it's in bus: a relatively common case of sleeping in public

3. arrow with wavy line: no-linear but time-based

Problems for users:Wake up many times because of sb pass by or worrying about safety and missing important information (station). To maintain vigilance, the quality of sleep is not high. At the same time, the inability to find a suitable sleeping position is also a problem. 

We want to design a product that increases the user's sense of security  from a psychological level, rather than physically changing the sleeping  environment in a public place.

The main function of our product may help users wake up but do not  intentionally stay awake to pay attention to the surrounding environment,  reducing the number of wake-ups in this process, to improve sleep quality.

03 DESIGN PROCESS


The main function is planning short sleep time based on the user's personal  schedules. 

User can upload his daily schedule from the phone and the system can plan  short sleep time for him. Also, the user can change the time by himself  according to the personal preferences and accidental events in the day. 

Another function is the alarm. 

1. Set the alarm based on the time.

2. Set the alarm based on the location when the user is on the transport like  train or bus. The location can be the location of the destination or the route of the bus or underground.

The user can set a route for common used.


Design goal:1. A chance for short sleep to relive tiredness in the daily work can be  reminded to the user for their better working efficiency and health. 2. Personalize the sleep plan also connected to the night sleep time, This can  arrange a suitable sleep time for user. because the sleep in the day and night  cannot be separated to consider. 3. Enhance the sense of safety for sleep or rest on the public transport  especially on the way to work or back to home.
