Leadership is mainly regardedas the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving acommon goal. Good leaders are expected to direct their subordinates with astrategy to meet the organization needs.
The effective leadershipis believed to capture the essentials of being able and prepared to inspireothers. Based upon those ideas, the leadership calls on high requirement forthe leaders to engage in the factors involved of people’s motivation and goodinterpersonal relations. It ensures their ideas to be communicated to others inway that engages them enough to act as the leader wants them to act.
Wehave studied many kinds of leadership theories in this semester, for example, servant Leadership (SL),Charismatic Leadership (CL), Transformational Leadership (TFL), Authentic Leadership(AL),and so on. Thereare many similarities or overlaps between them.
ServantLeadership includes the importance of the leader's self-awareness andself-regulation, as well as the discussion of the leader's empathy and vision. The primary inclination of servant Leadership theory is: serving others ratherthan leading others; emphasizing selfconcept: serving or waiter, rather thanleader or employer. Servant Leadership has a gradual process of sublimation. Its foundation is that the leader has a vision. His ultimate goal is to win the high-level performance of leaders and followers. His focus and communicationlink are influence. The leader wins the trust of followers by establishing avision and establishing reliability, and finally guides the service to achievea high level of work performance.
Charismaticleadership does not emphasize self-regulation, but pays special attention tothe activation of the motivation mechanism of the leader's behavior and thefollower's self-concept conversion through charm or power, so that the followercan recognize and internalize the leader's values and ideology. The maincharacteristic of charismatic leadership is its influence on followers, whichis manifested in: followers believe in the leader’s ideological system, maintain consistent beliefs with the leader, accept leadership unconditionally, show enthusiasm and obedience to the leader, identify with the leader, andfollow Emotionally participate in the goals set by the leader, but the role ofthe leader’s self-awareness and self-regulation in this process has not beenfully explored.
Authenticleadership’s self-awareness and self-regulation come from the embedded self, although it is affected by social interaction, it is an interaction process ofindividual experience or history, not the result of the current realityreceptor or interaction. True or unreality may be a continuum or relativecomponent, but it absolutely does not consider other people or externalpressure to change the self. Self-awareness, openness, transparency, andconsistency are the core of authentic leadership. Authentic leaders havepositive endowments such as hope, optimism, and resilience. They can correctlyjudge vague moral issues from multiple angles and make judgments based on theirown moral values.
No matter what typeof leadership style the leader belongs to,there are two issues that areessential for the leaders. One is to take advantage of a team to achieve thegoal rather than a group. It reveals that whether the leaders are qualifieddepends on their ability to transfer a group of people into a team with mutualunderstanding and collective goal. The oother issue lies on a fact, that is,although the leader is the inspiration for and director of the action, theinfluence are two-way interaction, which means employees’ influence on theleaders is also vital for the dynamic cycle of the organization management.
The leaders are thepersons in the group that possesses the combination of personality andleadership skills to make others want to follow their direction. However, thesubordinates are the ones in the group to collaborate with their leaders and tobe proactive helpers with honest, devotion to work, passion, and sincereness. Boththe leaders and subordinates should be aware of their advantages anddisadvantages and set up a good interpersonal relations which will promotetheir understanding in order to achieve the common goal. Above all mentioned,it can be regarded as a good explaination of the leadership.
Personally, I gaineda lot through this course and realize how important to master the knowledge ofleadership is to guide my future career. Thank you so much for your kindnessand hard work.
