Week 10Leading Self-Managed Teams

 

In self-managed teams, individual members who make upthe team have the decision-making authority. But I think the following aspectsare very important for the effective management of SMT.

  1. Membersin SMT should have a vested interest in clarifying team goals. In somecompanies members may complain that I get frustrated with this team because Ior others seem to do not know why they should finish these tasks. Even thoughthey are working hard, they do not know what the purpose of the work is andwhat the prospects are. In this way, employees are easily lost and burnout. It is very important to set a common goal thateveryone is willing to pursue, and every member in the SMT knows what the goalis. So, I think the top manage in SMT providing objective goals is veryimportant to ensure SMT effectiveness and success. 
  2. Andself-managed team participants should clearly understand the company’sincentive measures. In SMT, the incentive measures for employees' work need tobe formulated very clearly and easily understood. In my opinion, it is a goodway for members to formulate incentive measures recognized by everyone afterdiscussion. In this way, members not only participate in the formulationprocess, but also have a good understanding of the specific policies ofincentive measures. In fact, the design of incentive measures in many companiesis very complicated, and employees who have not participated in the formulationcannot interpret such measures. For example, in the school where I work, mycolleagues and I have never figured out the composition of performance pay inour salary and how to evaluate performance
  3. Inorder to complete the set tasks, members in SMT can get enough trainingopportunities to improve their business skills and accumulate experience. Only when the members' working ability can match thetasks given can they have confidence in completing the work, otherwise, theywill feel confused and disappointed in the work process. Therefore, with thedevelopment of technology, it is very important to be ready to train your ownemployees.
