I watched my daughters splash in the Mediterranean today, skirts pulled up high (we were ill prepared for the adventure, but it doesn't really make any difference once you get to the edge of the world) and I remembered being their age and splashing in the same sea but on the other side (North Africa). I felt so connected to that moment from the past and to this, to them and to myself, to the strong man beside me, and to everything really. I think I was glowing; a smile on my face so unintentional I couldn't suppress it even when I tried.
