What are Americans thoughts on the British?

As a Brit who spends a decent amount of time online, especially during these strange times, it seems more and more frequent to encounter Americans who have fairly negative views on Britain or her people, so my question to you Americans is do you share the same disdain towards your British cousins? If so, please inform me why you think like that, and if you do not, please divulge what your opinion of British people is.

I'm American and I've been living in England for 2 years now. I can tell you pretty confidently that Americans generally have a positive view of the Brits-my friends and family back home are always really interested to know what life is like here and have all made efforts to come out and visit me. They've all loved it : ). The only things I've personally noticed that I don't love about England is that it's rather hard to make friends with you guys, you seem much more closed off than your typical American or even Irishman. The other thing is that on the whole, I find you guys to be a bit more judgmental- an American abroad in England is judged more harshly than a Brit in America in my opinion. Other than that though, what's not to love!

I don't see it online. Americans like to joke about tea in the harbor but generally harbor no animosity towards the UK.

I've been treated very well by everyone I met over there. Spent about a month living with a British couple. Got sponsored by someone in the peerage to row in Henley on Thames. A Scottish family hosted a Highland games for us. I honestly can't remember an unpleasant encounter.

In all honesty the tea in the harbour joke probably goes over a lot of British people's heads too - I didn't realise until my American friend explained it last year you were making fun of us the whole time!

My paternal g-grandparents were from Birmingham, immigrated to the US in 1910, my mother's direct lineage is English, immigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the 1600s, one of her g-grandmothers was from the Hampshire area. A lot of Americans who have lived here for generations have some English/Scottish/Welsh or Irish in them. I love research family history & have been in touch with 3rd cousins in England, met one 2 years ago when he flew to the U.S. for a vacation. I have lots of English in me!

Love, love, love anything British, my father loves As Time Goes By & Keeping Up Appearances, the former is on our local PBS station on Saturdays at 7 pm, it's a ritual w/him, been doing it for 20 years. We watched Monty Python in the 70s, funniest show ever. I've always been fascinated w/the Royal Family, I have books by people who associated w/them, I read the Daily Mail online occasionally.

I've never met anyone who didn't want to visit England. My brother & his wife have visited, my daughter & her then- boyfriend (now hubby), my aunt & her 3 sons. I was green w/envy. Finally I found a reasonably-priced ticket a year ago, made reservations for 31 March 2020 to spend a week staying with a 3rd cousin in London, taking the train to Birmingham to visit other distant relatives and MAYBE squeeze in a day- trip to Paris. I was so excited. Well, the trip didn't happen, I have a credit w/the airline and hope to go next year. What a disappointment. I want to see the historical sites, listen to all the wonderful accents, eat fish & chips, sticky toffee pudding, experience afternoon tea & a good English breakfast.

Americans (and the US government) have always had a close relationship w/the UK, hard to believe it was once a British colony, lots of British descendants over here. Love, love, love the English! Can't wait to experience the country for myself!

You're a fine people. I'm very happy to have you as an ally. Plus I think your history is interesting and, as an English speaker, I'd love to visit someday as it would be easy for me to get around.

Hey I <3 the UK. Then again I love everyone so maybe I'm not the best person to ask. I'd say in general most Americans like the UK. I've only met one person irl that did not like Brits and that was just because she didn't like your general sense of humor. She also didn't like Russians either. Now that I think about it she didn't like a lot of people and was kind of negative as a person.

Even the toughest British accent sounds polite to me. Which is to say that I'd probably get my ass beaten a lot if I lived there because if some big dude pushed me around and talked some crap, I'd be like, lol, dude, go have some tea and crumpets. Or, you know, curtsey.

CAN'T stand Americans who think they're "not like other Americans," throw on rose-colored glasses of Britain/Europe/EU, and suddenly start using words like, "mum," "flat," "lorry," and "loo." Totally pretentious and obnoxious! (Obvious exceptions to be made for someone just returning from a lengthy time abroad, a British parent, a British partner)

I think we look at Britain like an older brother we want to both impress and outdo. So we'll gush over your royals, but also make fun of your teeth.

We love Brits but when you hit us with 'regards' at the end of a message it definitely stings. Save that chilly sign off for the work colleagues you can't stand.

No I don't think that's the issue, us brits have long forgotten that. It's the issue of Americans online who seem to have some sort of grudge against brits as if they had just finished dumping tea in the Boston harbour and decided to open up reddit and argue with some brits.
